Artiste libre, surnommé « Apollon », il explore inlassablement les liens entre forme, matière et lumière, alliant usage et ornement, rigueur et fantaisie. Sa grande diversité stylistique, du réalisme à l'abstraction, le distingue très tôt, tout comme sa signature la plus célèbre : son émail noir.
« La forme doit venir de l'intérieur et pousser vers l'extérieur, c'est-à-dire être gonflée. C'est une loi générale de l'objet. Les émaux seront plus beaux sur les surfaces pleines, et puis il y a cette idée que l'objet doit contenir quelque chose. This hardcover book with 288 pages presents the works of the French ceramist Georges Jouve (1910-1964).
A major figure in post-war decorative arts, Georges Jouve embodies a style of ceramics free from any academic constraints. A freelance artist, nicknamed "Apollo," he tirelessly explores the connections between form, material, and light, combining function and ornament, rigor and fantasy. Its great stylistic diversity, from realism to abstraction, he distinguished himself very early on, as did his most famous signature: his black enamel.
« The form must come from the interior and push towards yje exterior, that is to say be inflated. This is a general law of the object. Enamels will be more beautiful on well-rounded surfaces, and then there is this idea that the object must contain something.
